Dystopian Days: Nr 2 (A)Morality

Dystopian Days: Nr 2 (A)Morality
Join us in dystopia!
Over the past year, detheatermaker’s prospecting team, de resonanten, saw 180 performances: from work-in-progress to graduation and first performances. After all that spying, it’s time to give something back to new makers: welcome to our Dystopian Days!
De Resonaten are hosting 3 workshops that focus on conversation and studying each other’s practice. Together with some experts from the arts field, we will also reflect on the dystopian vision around masculinity, ecology / catastrophy and (a)morality, and how we can evolve towards a utopian view.
For the second workshop on (A)Morality de resonanten invite Simon Van Schuylenbergh to host a workshop, on 25/4 from 10 till 17h in c o r s o, Antwerp.
The discussion about what can and can not be shown are central to performance but also to society in general. What can or cannot be ‘staged’ ‘present’ ‘made visible’ ‘performed’ expresses what we consider admissible or obscene, right or wrong. Simon van Schuyelenberg is interested in moral ambiguity and the impossibility of moral purity. He kind of believes ambiguity can offer us an opaque grey-zone in which we can make room for action.
In this workshop we will linger in no-go-zones. We questions protocols, hallucinations of care, morals that control our social spheres while making performances. Through fictive characters, over-devotion, ambiguous versions of ourselves, we are trying to take these topics seriously, without taking ourselves promoting it too serious.
For who? All theatre makers – in the broad sense of the word, from scenographers and dramaturgs to technicians and costume designers – with a priority for those in their first five years of their trajectory within the performing arts sector.
Participation is possible until 16/04 via this form.
The language of the workshop will be English.
