Short Stay is an initiative where de Resonanten can offer makers a short residency so they can get to know the workings of the theatre maker.

The maker currently in our Short Stay residency is Jessica Boyeleba Balehen also known as Calya J.

What do you do when your mind is stuck but your body is growing…

Jessica Boyeleba Balehen is an Antwerp-based music artist. She writes, plays a number of instruments and produces her own music. She released her first EP Blueprint in early 2020. This EP features a mix of mystical beats/soundscapes and soul/rap vocals. With her own band and in various collaborations, she has already conquered an impressive string of venues in Belgium, including Trix, AB, Beursschouwburg, Het Bos, VIERNULVIER and the Botanique.

For Radiant Nights #11, she presents Purp.S for the first time. A concert performance where she combines image, word and new sounds into a sacred moment of coming together, reflection and healing. Backed by her band and backing vocals, she takes the lead in this sacred moment, experiencing with the audience the many emotions from sunrise to sunset and celebrating the relationship between the moon and the sun.
